Review by Adolf Aran Jr
An invitation from media friend Norma Chikiamco to check out a new restaurant set up by world renowned pianist Raul Sunico made my family and I troop to Novaliches on a Sunday morning. Aside from still being quite active playing beautiful music in different parts of the world, while teaching classical piano in St Paul College of Manila, the maestro is now a restaurateur. His seasoned character and persona is as smooth as his music, but I’m digressing. Let’s talk about his new baby, D’ Caves Flavours.
The Food
The international eclectic menu features some of the dishes that Raul Sunico loves, drawing inspiration from his travels, with the culinary expertise of Executive Chef Froilan Ferrer. As the name suggests, the menu was a “food jungle of different flavors.” Some of the standouts are the pasta dishes (ravioli spinach and ricotta in pesto truffle sauce, and ravioli liver pate and mushroom in cream ragu sauce), the lengua conseta, the beef stew and the lechon macau. The Filipino classics include the beef tapa, the savory fried chicken and the turon langka for dessert. Unpretentious, unapologetic and yet flavorful, the menu is truly a jungle of food flavors waiting to be discovered.
The Service
Friendly and trying to get into the groove of an excellent guest service sequence. The more seasoned management team members, including the executive chef, are in a better position to explain the stories behind the food and the restaurant. Potentially, the team has the making of being service thespians in the F&B industry, considering that the restaurant only opened in October 2025.
The Ambience
It’s spacious, with a seating capacity of more than 150 pax (with mezzanine and private function rooms), with a beautiful chandelier that looks like Moroccan in origin. Plus, the open kitchen is an attraction to marvel at, if you’re interested to know what goes on “behind the scenes.” Family friendly space.
Value For Money
Student meals at P150, that’s a steal for budget conscious diners. Group sets than can range from P500 to P1000 per diner, when the bill is split accordingly. Ala carte dishes at an average of P250-400. Considering the space, the portion size, and the food quality, the price points are within the affordable range.
Overall, highly recommended for foodies who look forward to a culinary adventure in the northern of Quezon City. Did I mention that the location is right across SM City Novaliches, so you won’t miss it? Check it out with your family and friends.
