The distinguished society honors Susana P. Guerrero for leadership and excellence

In recognition of her visionary leadership, commitment and continuing legacy to create significant impact on society through world-class culinary education and ethical business practices, The Cravings Group (TCG) Founder and President Susana “Annie” Pascual-Guerrero was recently honored with a medal by the prestigious Antonin Careme Society. The first Filipino to be given this distinction, Guerrero was formally recognized as a member of the Antonin Careme Society Class of 2015 at Cliff House San Francisco in California last November 16.
Guerrero was awarded for the establishment of the country’s pioneer culinary arts school, the Center for Culinary, Arts (CCA, Manila), as well as for her many meaningful contributions in many groundbreaking advocacies on entrepreneurship, sustainable environmentalism, and corporate social responsibility on various levels.
Guerrero, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics graduate from the University of the Philippines, is also recognized as the first Certified Culinary Professional in the Philippines by the International Association of Culinary Professionals (IACP). In addition to her admirable works, Guerrero’s nurturing spirit has inspired the creation of the Culinary Education Foundation, TCG’s social responsibility arm that aims to bring culinary education and livelihood opportunities closer to less privileged Filipinos through scholarships and grassroots entrepreneurial short courses, such as Super Manang, Mobile Kitchen and Cooking for Life programs. Currently, she is also the President of Zero-Waste Philippines, Inc. a non-government organization with a vision of promoting ecological awareness and zero waste lifestyle.
In her speech, Guerrero humbly dedicated her recognition to the millions of overseas Filipino hospitality industry workers whose talents and skills are at par with the world’s finest. She also commended and thanked them for making the country proud through dedication and by striving earnestly in their chosen professions. She also stressed that more than the accolades, “my true joy is seeing The Cravings Group – the country’s first business organization to receive an ISO 14001 certification which is a global standard for environmental excellence — remain in the forefront of continuing efforts to promote culinary environmentalism.”
The Antonin Careme Medal was first awarded in 1969. Since then, it has honored chefs from all over the world who have made extraordinary contributions to the upliftment of the culinary profession. The honor was named after French chef Antonin Careme, the “Chef of Kings” and “King of Chefs”, who served Europe’s royalty in the 18th century. He is often cited as the founder of French gastronomy. Past recipients of this prestigious honor include Julia Child, Narsai David, Martin Yan, Bradley Ogden, Andrew Sutton, Nunzio Alioto, among others.
